Kelvin Hughes has developed a small, lightweight version of the proven and successful SharpEye™ marine radar boasting its solid state technology (no magnetron). Providing navigation, surface search and waterborne surveillance, for the first time SharpEye™ is applicable to small watercraft ranging from Small Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) to larger fast patrol boats operated by coast guard, police, military and navies.

For the first time on small craft, SCV bridges the gap between leisure radome radars and the enhanced performance experienced from the SharpEye™ navigation and tactical open array systems used on capital ships.


SharpEye™ SCV uses a pulse compression and Doppler processing technique to provide superior detection in inclement weather conditions and its 100% solid state electronics construction (no magnetron) provides improved reliability and ruggedness in a compact enclosed radome antenna.

Doppler processing enables the detection of extremely small and slow targets in inclement weather conditions day or night, building an organic surveillance picture out to the radar horizon, so reducing reliance on external communications links and informing real time tactical decision making.

Small Craft

This unique surveillance radar package provides a proven means of detecting and tracking stressing targets and asymmetric threats, which previously no other radome can provide. Until now maritime law enforcement, military and naval mariners have only leisure boat radars with their inherent disadvantages available to achieve a marginal improvement in situational awareness.

Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat

SCV exhibits qualities such as low probability of detection and resistance to jamming as a result of its inherent low power design and user selectable frequencies, providing a stealthy covert presence. These features and patented pulsed transmissions from the solid state amplifier provide a unique radome solution with a difficult to detect radar signature.

Unlike magnetron technologies, SCV doesn't need to warm up at switch on and with its "Get Me Home" dual redundancy power amplifier and MTBF of 30,000 hours, you can be sure that it will be ready when you need it most.

The SharpEye™ SCV lightweight X-band / I-band coherent marine radome radar utilising the core SharpEye™ technology and shock resistant submersible radar display is designed for watercraft ranging from smallRHIBs up to 35 m fast patrol craft operated by coastguards, search and rescue, customs, police, navies, armies and special forces.


SharpEye™ SCV offers low power consumption, ultra-high reliability, and superior performance.

Key features include resistance to jamming, counter surveillance, covert mode and interchangeable colour/pattern pull over radome covers to suit mission needs.
